BALKO is a 30+ year old family – owned business, based in the small town of Struga on the coast of Ohrid Lake in Macedonia.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

At our company, we specialize in sourcing canned food products from around the world and distributing them throughout the whole country. Our reach extends beyond borders as we are also present in our neighboring countries, Albania and Kosovo. Additionally, we own and operate a network of stores and supermarkets, ensuring accessibility and quality for our valued customers in our area.

Balko Kompani traces its roots back to 1990 when the eldest member of the Balkoski family founded the company. Over the years, it has evolved into a thriving enterprise, with the main goal to serve its customers with best quality products under the best price. With a dedicated team of around one hundred employees, Balko Kompani operates primarily in two domains:

We specialize in importing a diverse range of canned food products under our brand, BALKO, which we introduced 18 years ago. Our product lineup includes canned fish such as tuna, sardines, and mackerel; canned fruits like pineapple, tropical fruit cocktail, and peach halves; and canned vegetables including green peas, sweet corn, and beans. Additionally, we offer frozen fish, palm oil, pasta, mustard, flour, and healthy traditional cookies. We’ve established our own distribution network to ensure efficient delivery throughout the country

We also operate a chain of 16 retail stores and supermarkets across our region, named BALKO Marketi, inspired by our family name. Our motto “SUPERMARKET FOR EVERYONE” embodies our unwavering commitment to equality and inclusivity, ensuring that every customer is served with the same dedication and care.

FOUNDED
The company was established in 1990 by the eldest member of the Balkoski family, initially operating as a wholesale warehouse. What started as a small venture soon began to grow, driven by dedication and a commitment to bring diverse and high-quality products to our community.

FIRST SUPERMARKET OPENED
In 1996, we expanded our operations by opening the first BALKO Marketi. This milestone marked the beginning of our retail journey, allowing us to directly serve our customers with a wide range of quality products. Our supermarket became a beloved spot in the community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service.

LAUNCHED OUR OWN BRAND
By 2006, we had developed our brand, BALKO. This pivotal step allowed us to introduce a diverse range of high-quality products under our own brand. With BALKO, we expanded our product offerings and strengthened our distribution network, ensuring that our customers received the best value and quality. The introduction of our brand marked a significant evolution in our company's growth and commitment to excellence.
